About Special Friends
Special Friends Animal Rescue & Services is a Detroit metro area based animal rescue organization. We are a group of volunteers currently pursuing our 501c3 non-profit certification. As we begin providing services to our community, we will start as a foster-based rescue; however, our goal is to obtain ownership of our own shelter facility by the end of 2010.
Our approach to animal rescue and shelter work will be a bit different. It is our goal to use our animal rescue facility as a means of providing jobs to high-need groups within our community including: the disabled, teens-at-risk, and senior citizens. We believe that the wonderful work of helping animals-in-need will help the individuals who are part of these groups find meaning in the tasks they perform, and for those that need it, also allow them to develop skills that can be used to help them make a living going forward. We are confident that the love they will receive from very grateful animals will be an extra reward that brings a special warmth.
Once we obtain our facility, as we move forward in achieving our goals, we will begin providing a variety of animal services to generate income that can finance our rescue work, and provide jobs for our high-need groups. Some of the services we hope to offer will include:
- low-cost spay/neuter programs
- low-cost vaccination programs
- pet grooming services
- animal daycare services
We will use this blog to keep you apprised of our activities as our group moves forward. Should you wish to contact us in the meantime, please feel free to email us at specialfriendsanimalrescue2@gmail.com .
